Order a certificate – Norwegian business
This page applies to businesses with a Norwegian organisation number in Enhetsregisteret (the Central Coordinating Register for Legal Entities). If the business does not have a Norwegian organisation number, see Order a certificate – foreign business.
Which certificate you need
Businesses with a Norwegian organisation number need an approved Norwegian business certificate. Currently, Buypass and Commfides are the approved issuers.
See Digdir's documentation on business certificates (virksomhetssertifikat) for more information.
Where to order
You order the business certificate directly from one of the approved issuers:
Ordering process
The details vary somewhat between the issuers, but the process is largely the same:
- Fill in the order form at the issuer (Buypass or Commfides).
- The order must be approved by a person with signing rights or power of procuration (prokura) for the business (a role registered in Brønnøysundregisteret).
- The certificate is delivered electronically by email, usually as a .p12 file (PKCS#12, a so-called soft token), while the password is sent separately. You confirm receipt digitally.
Delivery time is typically a few business days after the order is approved.
Note that the issuer delivers several certificates (for authentication, signing and encryption). It is the authentication certificate that you use with Maskinporten.
